I’ve always wanted to create a world so deep, that it feels almost real, though this is a titanic task that I may never get near to finishing.
]]>Yes, that Inn sounds awesome! I’d really love to see a setting like that.
I’ll hopefully post some new articles around New Year… speaking of which, happy festive days and a great 2011!
]]>Also, that’s a good article by Holly Lisle, she seems to write quite a bit on this subject as well. I’ll have to keep a closer eye on her blog =)
As for ideas, tell me about it! When I was writing the examples section I fell in love with the “Village within an inn” idea. That is something I am certainly going to develop even if it means I have to create a whole new world for it.
Right, off to write the next few articles. My blackberry also informed me you’ve posted up a new article so I’ll go and read that first.
Hope you’re doing well.
]]>I used all of these approaches as part of my own worldbuilding method, but that’s probably because I usually build huge multi-planet settings which allow for, and require, a combination of most or all of them.
But yes, for a single planet or smaller setting these would work well as methods of their own. (I guess they could work for bigger settings as well, but I personally would find it tiring to stick with a single approach for more than a planet.)
As for the fandom-based approach, I think you can use that also for original fiction. Provide, of course, you know how to properly steal ideas. (Holly Lisle wrote a good article on how to do that.)
Nice list. Got me some ideas, too.
